Overview

A walk along the beautiful and historic Kennet and Avon Canal, diverting across fields and woods as we approach Aldermaston Wharf for lunch.  Largely flat, easy terrain, but moderate pace required to cover the distance. Paths mostly good, although some stetches are overgrown and could be muddy.  Occasional stops to look at features of the canal, and (hopefully) watch narrowboats going through locks.  No toilets at Theale station; use loos on train. Optout possible at lunchtime from Aldermaston Station.

Lunch: Picnic spot and café at Aldermaston Wharf.  Picnickers should buy drinks at café to use loo.

Train: Paddington 10:05; Reading 10:33; Arr. Theale 10:40 (Newbury train).  Buy return to Thatcham.

Please note: many factors can affect how long a walk takes and the finish time given is an estimate only.
