Overview
On this walk we’ll head south and then east in the Vale to follow the line of the Lambourn Downs on our right to the hamlet of Fawler, adjacent to Kingston Lisle. From there it’s almost due south up to the Ridgeway, where there’s a very different feel to our surroundings. Our route then takes us westward along the Ridgeway until we leave it to head back down northwards to Uffington via Britchcombe Farm, with a long, wide view of the Vale of White Horse and beyond to the Chilterns. Bring a drink and snack for the break. All being well, The Fox and Hounds pub will be open for lunch for those who would like to eat or just have a drink together (completely optional). The moderate, rather than leisurely, grading of this walk reflects that the route up to the Ridgeway is quite steep. Park in the village car park, whose entrance is off the road called White Horse.
