Meeting in Vernham Dean we will walk north, through Linkenholt and the hamlet of Combe, to the ridge of the North Hampshire Downs. Turning west we will reach the historic Combe Gibbet with great views in all directions. The return leg sees us going south on the Test Way back to Vernham Dean.
This is an attractive, hilly walk - Combe Gibbet is adjacent to Walbury Hill, the highest point in south east England. There are some long, steady climbs, but nothing too steep. Will be on footpaths, bridleways and byways, through forest and on farm land, with just a couple of short sections on minor roads.
Well managed dogs are welcome.
There are no " facilities" en route. Please bring drinks and snacks for a morning coffee stop and lunch. As we return to Vernham Dean we pass The George inn, an ideal spot to rehydrate before heading home.
The circuit is 11 and a half miles. I'd expect us to finish late afternoon.
But for the 400m from the pub to the car park this is a totally different walk from the one I lead from Vernham Dean on 2 November, but equally good.
