We will meet in the car park for Waltham Abbey Gardens, head up past the Dragonfly Sanctuary, then along a bridleway to Aimes Green, before circling back via the trig point near Monkhams. Re-crossing the Crooked Mile road we will head back through the Cornmill Meadows to Waltham Abbey. This is a shorter walk than usual with a slightly earlier start time of 9.45 as the plan is to get back in time for those who wish to visit the church for a free music recital (about 40 minutes long), usually classical, which starts at 12.00.
From the trig point there are views on a good day down to the City of London and Canary Wharf. Next to the trig point are the remains of a WWI anti-airship gun emplacement. In the Meadows we will pass an unusual stone sculpture on the Meridian Line, which passes up from Greenwich through this part of the Lea Valley Park.
In Waltham Abbey there are several cafes and pubs available after the walk.
