A lovely three leg loop walk through the Hertfordshire countryside. The walk starts at Welwyn Garden City station and the first leg (about 4 miles) runs to Ayot St Lawrence. Here there are ruins of old St Lawrence church, ‘new’ neo-classical St Lawrence church and Brocket arms pub. Pub has coffee and toilets.
Leg two (about 4 miles) is through countryside and woodlands to Wheathampstead (about 4 miles). This is a small village with 16/17th houses, St Helen’s church, the river Lea, coffee shops and toilets. Exit point by Bus no. 610 to Cockfosters tube and 357 to Borehamwood Station.
Leg three (about 4 miles) back to Welwyn Garden city runs along Ayot greenway – an abandoned rail branch line converted to a foot path. Trail runs through woodlands and may be opportunity to see some miniature horse along way.
