Join us for a short one hour walk and talk with easy access, free parking or the Number 7 bus stop within 100 metres of the walk start. Starting from Alum Bay , we will walk up towards The National Trust Needles Old Battery overlooking the bay. We will continue ascending to the Needles New Battery and viewpoint of The Needles before a quick exploration of the old Black Arrow Rocket Testing Facility. We will then descend via the Coast Path from the cottages back to Alum Bay.
For anyone after a longer walk, or looking to build up to such, there will be an additional loop following on from the short walk.
New Walkers Welcome. If you are new to the Ramblers you can just turn up for any of our walks, unless we specify otherwise. We invite you to come along for three walks as a non-member.
Public Toilets are available at Alum Bay, the walk is also suitable for dogs on a lead.
Walks 5/9 and 6/9 will take place on the 17th and 24th February at the same time and location as part of the second block. This will give new walkers the opportunity to get to know a new walk and gain in confidence in company.
If you are unsure about your ability to undertake this walk, please contact the walk leader. If you need to leave the walking group, please ensure you let the walk leader or back marker know.
Depending on the weather, consider suitable, clothing, footwear, walking poles, sun cream, drinks, and food. Walking poles can be particularly useful in winter in helping you to stay upright! Watch out for ticks and remove ASAP. If you are unsure about your ability to undertake this walk, please contact the walks leader. If you need to leave the walking group, please ensure you inform the leader or back marker.
Please note that there may be short sections of road walking, so please walk in a single file and take good care.

Emergencies
It's very rare that an emergency occurs, but we may need info about
- Any health concerns that you have
- Any emergency contact information
We'd ask you to make sure that we have ready access to this, in case of an emergency.
Some people may wish to carry an In Case of Emergency (ICE) card. We have Ramblers cards for this.
