Braishfield has a very long history as a scattered settlement based upon agriculture. A series of footpaths leads through pleasant fields before entering the western edge of Ampfield Wood to pass the Sir Harold Hillier gardens and Arboretum. The footpath turns eastwards through Ampfield Woods, crosses the Monarch's Way, and then turns South via Claypit Road, climbing up a hill. A track then leads to the southern edge of the wood and onto a road at Knapp where we join the Monarch’s Way, to progress eastwards through the very pleasant Ampfield Wood. After a couple of miles the walk arrives at Hursley village and then eastwards for a little over a mile as it climbs uphill over fields to Silkstead, then turns north-eastwards to Yew Hill, from where there are some good views over Winchester. The footpath descends down towards Winchester, following the Clarendon way.
