From the Counters Gate car park we descend on a track into Charlton, then up the other side through Charlton Forest on a steady ascent to the SDW. We'll have our morning stop in the woods. We join the SDW above Heyshott and follow it for a couple of miles through the wild flower meadows and ancient earth works. At the Tegleaze signpost we start a steady descent through woods to East Dean. From East Dean there's a short, sharp ascent back to the car park on the Monarch's Way.
