This walk starts in Boroughbridge, we begin by heading out under the A1 under pass, where we will pass the famous Devil Arrows (bronze age giant stones). We then head towards the pretty village of Roecliffe where we join the path along the river Ure. This is a very peaceful, interesting section of the walk which passes through two sets of canal locks and offers good views of Newby Hall on the other side of the river. We follow the river for approximately 5 miles, along mostly fields and good paths. There is one short section in a wood that is a little over grown and muddy at one point you are very close to the river. We did encounter some nettles on the reccie so long trousers are recommended.
We leave the ure river as it splits into the Ripon canal where we head south over some fields towards village of Bishop Monton for lunch. We then head down the Ripon Rowel which initially follows the outside of a field of giant sweetcorn and then heads out onto a good track. We then follow a very quiet country road for 0.75 miles and then across a few more fields re tracing our steps back to Roecliffe and Boroughbridge.
This walk is entirely flat no accent or decent, there are plenty of options for refreshments after in Boroughbridge.
