This year's summer pub crawl will be in beautiful Calderdale, starting at the Dusty Miller in Mytholmroyd, a couple of minutes walk from the railway station (a train from Leeds is due in at 12:28). It has plenty of food options, so we'll stay there for about an hour before the nearly 3-mile walk (the longest of the day!) to the next pub. This begins with a hefty 400ft climb up Midgley Road and Dark Lane, then through Brearley Wood, and finally a descent into Luddenden to the Lord Nelson Inn with its secluded beer garden.
We then have an easy 2.5 mile walk down to and along the canal to the Puzzle Hall Inn. We're now in Sowerby Bridge and there are several options from here, all with outdoor areas if it's a nice day: Hollins Mill, Hogs Head Brew House, The Moorings.
If we still have the energy, there's another 400ft climb up to the Wainhouse Tavern, then past Wainhouse Tower to the Big 6 and yet more pubs in Halifax – Victorian Craft Beer Café, Vocation and the Meandering Bear all being a short walk from each other and in an almost direct route towards the railway station.
Trains can be caught home from either Sowerby Bridge or Halifax.
For food options during the day, aside from the Dusty Miller, Mytholmroyd has a Sainsbury's Local next to the pub and a cafe on the bridge as you come from the station. The next 2 pubs just have snacks, the Puzzle Hall Inn serves mini-pork pies (they did on the recce anyway!), and the refreshment opportunities are plentiful in Sowerby Bridge and Halifax.
Please make sure you have enough snacks and water with you, especially if it's a hot day. The total walk length from Mytholmroyd to Halifax is approximately 9 miles.
