We are the Winchester Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
Join us for this moderate 9 mile walk starting at 10 am from Avington Park Golf Club Car Park by their Club House where we have permission. Please car share where you can. Note you need to reach the Golf Club via Itchen Abbas and the B3047 road and not via Avington village as that road is currently closed. We can use Club House toilets and cafe - arrive early should you wish to use those. We take a variety of paths: 3 Castles Path, Watercress Way, St Swithun's Way and walk by the River Itchen and the River Alre. 5 miles in the morning, 4 miles in the afternoon. Much of the afternoon is on minor country roads and affords lovely views of the Itchen Valley. Bring drinks & snacks for elevenses. Lunch is at The Bell Inn, Alresford at 12.30 in the bar area. Or picnic in St John's Churchyard across the road. Please let me know if you are coming and your lunch menu choice by 6pm Tuesday 19 September - see pub's website. They also do choice of 2 sandwiches such as smoked salmon with cucumber & pesto or roastbeef with horseradish.
No stiles and little in the way of hills or mud. Ascent is 577 feet. Walking poles useful.
