Suggested Ticket: Zones 1-4 One Day Off Peak Metrolink Travelcard £4.90.
Walk Start: Altrincham Interchange (meet in the bus concourse) at 11:00.
Waypoints: Stamford Park, King George V Pool, Altrincham Golf Course, Grove Park, Halecroft Park, Hale Golf Course, River Bollin.
Return Services: Trams to Manchester every 6 minutes.
Extra: Toilets at Walk Start (coin operated). No toilets en route. Optional pub visit at the end of the walk.
The walk leaves the station going briefly through Altrincham's nicest park to visit a little known fishing pool.
We then travel across the first golf course to the second park, which sits at the edge of Timperley, Altrincham and Hale. Access to this park is up small a steep bank that can be muddy. Crossing that park, and a busy Altrincham bypass, the route continues along quiet residential Lanes and Drives to pass through the third park, in Hale Barns.
We then need to cross another busy A road, which leads to the Airport, before walking around Holy Angels Church to start the gentle descent through more residential lanes and the second golf course to the river Bollin.
We then follow the river, on and off, for the southernmost part of the walk before returning to Altrincham on residential roads.
Some of the riverside tracks and approaches can be muddy and steep for short sections, so walking boots are recommended.
Paths are narrow in places.
There are no places en route to buy food, so bringing a packed lunch and drinks will be necessary.
