From the visitor centre we head east along the Trent and Mersey canal to Marston and the site of the old Lion Salt Works. We then make our way through flat fields to the historic village of Great Budworth which is regularly used as a film location for TV.
A circuit of the village will take in the ancient church, a tree lined avenue and pretty cottages. Before leaving the village we can top up our water bottles at the spring fed well used by locals for its pure water.
The afternoon has a view of Budworth Mere, a small woodland and easy field paths back to the canal to complete the walk.
The car park is £3 by cash, card or app.
There are toilets in the visitor centre.
Dogs on leads are welcome. There is a pub or cafe at the visitor centre for a drink at the end of the walk.
Please note the boat lift is currently being repaired and not in use.
