Overview

This is a moderate circular walk of approximately 5 miles, starting from the south side of Annfield Plain. From the carpark, we head into the Greencroft Heath Nature Reserve, where the autumn colours on the woodland path are very attractive. After a short loop, we leave the nature reserve and join the Sunderland to Consett cycle path. We head W, skirting the edge of Greencroft Industrial Park. We continue SE, following the footpath around Park Head Farm, and enjoying the views of the hills on the other side of the valley. There are some muddy sections and a few stiles on this route. We head downhill and along a bridle path into woodland. There is a short uphill stretch, before we turn NW towards the Greencroft Industrial Park and cycle path again, back towards Annfield Plain. Finally, we take a "walk in the park" past the village War Memorial and tennis courts, back to the carpark.

After the walk, refreshments will be available at the Lakeside Tearoom at Harperley Plant Centre, approximately 2 miles away: the postcode is DH9 9UB and What3Words is ///undercuts.period.cutback Directions are given below.
