This is a linear ‘green walk’, accessible by public transport.
Length is 7.5 miles along the canal towpath – so flat and on good paths. Grade C+
We will meet as a group at 10.30 at the Donald Dewar statue at the top of Buchanan Street (NS591657).
We will walk to Hope Street at Sauchiehall Street (NS588657) and take a bus to Maryhill for the start of the walk. Bring bus passes if you have them.
Along the route we will have a stop for coffee and lunch at suitable stops according to weather etc.
The walk will end in Kirkintilloch (NS654739), returning by express bus to Buchanan Street bus station.
Toilets are available at the start of the walk and at a couple of points along the route (Lambhill Stables and Bishopbriggs Sports Centre).
There are numerous points of interest along the route including the Maryhill flight of locks, the Bleithir sculpture at Stockingfield Junction, Lambhill Stables, Possil Loch nature reserve, Cadder Church, remains of the Antonine Wall and the marina at Kirkintilloch.
