A varied, moderate walk in the Borrowdale valley. We start from Rosthwaite and follow the path beside Stonethwaite Beck to reach the beginning of the Langstrath valley, crossing the beck at a bridge just upstream from a series of waterfalls. We return on the other side, through the hamlet of Stonethwaite, and continue through farmland and pastures to cross the main road, continuing past the houses at Mountain View, to reach a short stretch of woodland before climbing steeply up to meet the Allerdale Ramble path. Here we have fantastic views of the Borrowdale valley and beyond, before we begin the short steep climb up the slate path to Castle Crag, where we'll have a great view of Derwent Water and the northern fells. After descending we join the path beside the river Derwent and return through woodland and pastures to Rosthwaite.
Parking is at the National Trust carpark in Rosthwaite, please bring a NT card if you have one. The route is on a mixture of good, stony paths with a short boggy section, and will be at a moderate pace. There is one wide stream to cross which can be difficult after heavy rain.
