Travel by public transport to the start then follow the mostly low level route to Keswick on quiet roads, fields and tracks - lake-shore (Scarness Point), forest (Thornthwaite), fell (Dodd lower slopes) and riverside (Derwent).
There is no normal car sharing available. Travel is by X4 Bus from Penrith bus station at 9.15am, then leave Keswick at 10.07am to arrive at Bassenthwaite Village Turn at 10.21am. After end of walk refreshments in Keswick X4 / X5 buses leave every half hour back to Penrith.
Dogs are welcome on the walk but must be under close control, preferably on a lead.
