West Mendip Walkers moderate 11.5 mile circular walk from Cadbury Castle car park. The route follows undulating footpaths over fields via the site of the medieval village of Whitcombe and along the Cleeve to the village of Chalton Horethorne. The route then heads west, steadily climbing to Corton Hill before descending into the village of Corton Denham. We then head on to the magnificent Corton Ridge, following it for 2 km along the Monarch's Way before climbing to the top of Parrock Hill. We then descend into the village of Sutton Montis and proceed onto the final leg of the walk ascending to the ramparts of Cadbury Castle, the alleged site of King Arthur's Camelot.
The route is dog friendly (caution near livestock and horses). There are also a couple of ticky stiles/kissing gates. Refreshments are available after the walk in the nearby Camelot Pub. The route is likely to be wet and muddy in places, especially near gateways. The appropriate footwear and clothing is advised. A number of short steep climbs, total elevation 1300 ft. [NB Out of fairness to everyone, regular walkers with the West Mendip Walkers are asked to take their turn in leading walks, typically around two a year].
