Overview

A moderate walk of 7.5 miles, starting from Seven Springs car park, on undulating forest and heathland tracks and paths on the north-western side of the Chase, and a section of the Trent & Mersey Canal towpath. On leaving the car park, we start a gradual ascent of Beggar's Hill, with good views at the top. We then descend through Haywood Warren and Haywood Slade, passing the rampart used as a rifle range in WW1 and the sand and gravel quarry. There is a short section of road walking (care needed) before reaching Wolseley Park. Lunch stop is at the Wolseley Arms pub, after which we join the towpath for about a mile, then cross Weetman's Bridge and return to the car park.
