This is a leisurely winter walk which is full of variety and contrasts. It's a little bit urban with short sections in both Bearsden and Drumchapel yet, for much of the route, there is a big countryside feel.
There are miles of woodland, open parkland and even a hill to climb with great views as a reward. Our walk will largely follow the Drumchapel Way, a waymarked loop, but with a few additions.
You can book this walk by contacting the leader from December 6.
The route starts at Bearsden station and skirts the edge of Colquhoun Park before meandering through Garscadden Woods (aka the Bluebell Woods). From here, weather permitting, we'll take a detour up to Castle Hill, site of a former Roman Fort.
There's then more woodland and open countryside before we reach Drumchapel, a neighbourhood associated with deprivation but which is undergoing major regeneration. We'll then head back to leafy Bearsden where there are pubs and cafes for refreshments and trains back to Glasgow every half hour.
The terrain is mixed with tarmac, woodland and grassy slopes. It could be slippy or boggy depending on weather. Walking boots recommended.
We'll stop at the top of the hill for a break and once again in one of the later countryside sections. There are no toilets on the route though it should be possible to find cover.
