We have been given permission to use the car park but have been asked to park away from the pub buildings. I hope some of you will join me in the pub for a drink after the walk.
The walk is just under 9 miles. It is not a demanding walk. I plan to walk at a moderate pace as I would like the group to stay together. In the morning, it follows quiet lanes and footpaths, including a stretch of the Monarch's Way. We will stop for lunch just before we reach Snitterfield by the cricket ground and children's play area where there are some benches. In the afternoon, we head back, via the Wolverton road and then across fields to Claverdon. The total ascent is 685ft. There is a bit of a pull up the road to Wolverton after lunch and there will be some traffic on this stretch so we will walk on the right and take care.
Some of you may recognise this walk as one I have led some time ago from Snitterfield to Claverdon and back, but as the parking is easier in Claverdon so I have changed it.
There are various ways to get there. If you are coming from South Birmingham, I suggest you take the A435 to Mappleborough Green, turn left at the roundabout onto A4189 Henley Road. Continue through Henley to Claverdon. The pub is on your right as you leave the village. Take care when you turn into the car park.
I hope to see some of you there. The weather looks more promising on Sunday than for the rest of the week.
