Bare Brew serves hot drinks, bakery items and fancy brunches. It has a toilet. Please arrive by 10.45 at the latest.
After coffee, at 11.00, we will have an optional walk around the wooodland and greens opposite the cafe, then we walk back past the tube station (nearly 1 mile). We then pass Eagle Pond and reach an attractive, detached section of Epping Forest. The walk continues through patches of woodland and grassland, passing a stop for the No 20 bus after 2 miles, then we continue close to the lake (hollow Pond). When we reach Whipps Cross Road (3 miles) there are nearby stops for buses W15 and 257 to various tube stations and Hackney. We continue round the lake and across open grassland, returning to Snaresbrook Tube Station (about 4.5 miles in total).
Bring a picnic lunch if you plan to walk in Epping Forest. Walking boots or walking shoes are reommended, as we will be walking on unmade paths and rough ground. There are no toilets along the way, but there are plenty of bushes.
Bare Brew, 7 Wanstead High Street, E11 2AA, is near Snaresbrook Tube Station and buses 66, W13 and W14 stop outside. At Snaresbrook Station, head towards the ticket office on the eastbound platform and look for an open doorway in the office, to the right of the main exit door. This leads to a footbridge over the road. Cross the bridge and go down the steps to street level. On the pavement turn left, to walk under the tube line and past a row of recycling skips. Continue a short distance along Wanstead High Street, crossing Sylvan Road and Hermon Hill. Bare Brew is in the next row of shops, opposite Memorial Green.
