Overview

From Compton Bassett we walk up to Starve Knoll, then on through Roach Wood to reach the White Horse Trail which we follow and then descend to reach Highway.   The route then passes through fields and along a pretty stream into the village of Hilmarton then on to Freeth Farm before returning to Compton Bassett.  There are two steep ascents and one similar descent and some stiles.

There may be livestock enroute and sticks may be useful as it may be muddy.  Chalk, in particular, can be slippery when wet.  Bring refreshments for one stop.  We will be back for lunch
