You think Croydon (aka The Cronx) is an urban nightmare? Think again: it's greener than you might imagine!
Meet at the cycle racks/ATMs at the side entrance to Boxpark (go up the ramp at the southbound end of the platform and out of the main exit of East Croydon station: Boxpark is on your right). We quickly leave the town centre behind and follow a route through Lloyd Park (with views back over the Cronx skyline), Addington Hills, Littleheath Woods and Croham Hurst (site of a Bronze Age barrow/burial mound) and back to East Croydon station.
There are some roads to cross/walk along, but it's mostly woods, parkland and country lanes (some of it along the route of the London Loop), with a few short but steep climbs. It may well be muddy, so please wear boots! Lunch will be in the grounds of listed building Heathfield House: please bring a packed lunch. Public toilets on East Croydon station platforms, but none en route. There is a pub at the end of the walk.
Drop-out points: Lloyd Park & Coombe Lane tram stops, and bus on Upper Selsdon Road.
Make your own way to East Croydon railway station: please be there in time for an 11:30 start. There are many trains from Victoria, St Pancras, London Bridge, Blackfriars & Clapham Junction; there are also buses and trams.
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
