One of the classic Peak District walks. We climb up the steps at the side of the Derwent Dam, and have a pleasant stroll along the reservoir, before ascending Walkers Clough leading us to the summit of Lost Lad, where we will pause for a well earned coffee break. The first part of Walkers Clough is very steep in places, but soon turns into a more gentle slope. Given good weather, the views are amazing, and the steep bit is soon forgotten! We then head for the summit of Back Tor, where the brave can scramble to the trig point.
Then it is a very enjoyable walk along Derwent Edge, passing some weird and wonderful rock formations- we will be stopping for lunch at the “Coach and Horses” and no, it is not a pub, but a huge pile of rocks!
We then make our descent to the shores of Ladybower reservoir and our return to the car park.
This is classed as “strenuous “ due to the short, steep ascent at the beginning. Some of the paths may be uneven and rocky, so good strong footwear is essential, along with warm clothing. Poles may also be helpful. Please bring sufficient drinks and food.
There are toilets, a shop and cafe at the car park- parking fee is £7 for the day.
