West Mendip Walkers moderate, pleasantly varied, 19 kms (11.8 miles) circular walk from Dulverton with 370 metres (1,220 feet) of ascent. The walk crosses the bridge over the River Barle in Dulverton before climbing in a westerly direction through Burridge Wood. The walk then continues westerly over undulating fields, where there may be livestock, to Higher Chilcott. We then head north and turn west for 1 kilometre on quiet lanes before traversing East Anstey Common on a wide bridleway. We pick up the Two Moors Way, heading north, before descending through West Hollowcombe Wood to pick up a good path on the banks of the River Barle. The last 5 miles of the walk are a very pleasant mostly flat, occasionally undulating, path alongside the banks of the River Barle back to Dulverton where there is the option of afternoon tea at the Copper Kettle, 21 Fore Street, Dulverton, TA22 9EX. Overall this walk has a few gentle climbs.
There will be the option of afternoon tea at the Copper Kettle in Dulverton at the culmination of the walk. If you are interested in staying for afternoon tea please advise so we can reserve a big enough table (hopefully in their lovely garden). The walk is very dog-friendly with only a few gates and a small road walk in the middle section, but livestock is a possibility in some of the fields on the first third of the walk.
