West Mendip Walkers moderate 6.5 mile circular walk from the Castlebrook Inn car park, Compton Dundon. Initially taking minor roads and footpaths at the edge of the Somerset Levels before gently climbing Ivy Thorn Hill to join the Polden way, from here we follow the Polden Way east crossing the B3151 to enter Collard Hill and then a short climb up to the Ridgeway before reaching the Hood Monument at Windmill Hill. We then follow tracks through Hatch Hill and Combe Hill woodland before the descent down Combe Hollow Lane returning to the car park
The route is dog friendly but will need to be leashed when crossing roads as well as in fields with livestock. Total ascent 200 meters.
Lunch will be available at the Castlebook Inn for those who wish to stay after the walk. For groups the chef has requested we pre order by the Sunday 12 April prior to the Tuesday walk. I request members book in for the walk in good time and confirm your menu choices to me by the latest by 1200 hours on the 12 April 2026. No payment up front is required. (copy of the menu will follow separately).
The meal at the end of this walk is a social event for members of the West Mendip Walkers group and their partners.
[NB Out of fairness to everyone, regular walkers with the West Mendip Walkers are asked to take their turn in leading walks, typically around two a year].
