West Mendip Walkers moderate 10 mile circular walk from near Alton Barnes east of Devizes. The first part of the walk includes extensive views from the Pewsey Downs and across the path where it is thought the Sarsen stones at Stonehenge were hauled from their origin at West Woods near Marlborough. The centre part of the walk is through West Woods itself, during the bluebell season
Dog friendly, very few stiles, but expect some livestock. There’s a very good cafe a short drive after the walk. NB: I may reverse the route depending on the weather.
[NB Out of fairness to everyone, regular walkers with the West Mendip Walkers are asked to take their turn in leading walks, typically around two a year].
