West Mendip Walkers moderate 10mile walk from Crowcombe heading SW across fields and then path adjacent to the WSR (maybe see a steam train) before heading to Stogumber (C14 church with chancel highly decorated in Arts and Craft style, interesting gargoyles known as "hunky punks" here in Somerset). Back across the railway line via Vellow to Bicknoller with its C12 church and its 1000 year old Yew Tree where we stop for lunch (toilet available). Head onto the Quantocks around Bicknoller Hill past Trendle Ring Settlement, Long Combe and Paradise Combe up Halsway Hill around Hurley Beacon then steep downhill back to Crowcombe.
The route includes paths across farm land, moors and some quiet country roads. Dogs welcome on leads where necessary. Refreshments at the end of walk in the excellent Carew Arms. Walk initially fairly level but then steep climb up and down hill (total accent 1640ft)
[NB Out of fairness to everyone, regular walkers with the West Mendip Walkers are asked to take their turn in leading walks, typically around two a year].
