West Mendip Walkers 9.5 mile easy/moderate walk combining urban, rural and riverside sections and a bus ride. Starting at the Newbridge Park and Ride car park, we take the bus onto the city centre and head to the railway station. Here we go under the railway and over the river before a steady uphill through Widcombe to Claverton Down and swing around the university sports area before heading for Hengrove Wood and Bathampton Down. We descend to Bathwick and go over the canal, railway and river and back into the centre of Bath. Here we head towards Queens Square and Royal Avenue below The Crescent and through Victoria Park. Here we head down to the river and walk its banks back to the car park and the Boat House pub.
-
Dog owners - there are a lot of urban streets, city centre and riverside sections and some livestock. You will need to have your dog on a lead for many sections.
-
Safety - we cross some moderately busy roads. The paths are all well used, but one wooded section has a number of fallen trees to get over or around, and a moderately slippery section if it is wet.
-
Bus fare £2-60 contactless payment on the bus, or free with a bus pass. Parking is free. Toilets.
-
Bath city and the car park toilets are generally 20p.
Please register in advance for this walk so that the walk leader can compile an accurate list of participants beforehand. Out of fairness to everyone, regular walkers with the West Mendip Walkers are asked to take their turn in leading walks, typically around two a year.
