Overview

A circular walk through woodland and open land.  A great circuit for any time of the year but it is especially good to do in the winter because of a near total lack of mud. There are some hills but nothing too strenuous with most of the ascent in the first few miles.

We start from the car park in Eartham Wood and make our way along Stane St (the Monarchs Way). We then turn towards Upwaltham and head off to Gumber Corner. Following the path alongside Great Bottom we carry on to Great Down and walk down this until we turn off back into Eartham Wood and return to the car park .

Some of the tracks are potentially slippery in places so the usual chalk surface caveat applies and I'd recommend a walking pole. There are no stiles. There are no man made loos but Mother Nature has provide plenty of secluded alternatives.

Please bring a snack/picnic. We will have one 10 to 15 minute break about half way through at Gumber Corner.
