Overview

We will pick up the East Mendip Way and follow it past Cranmore Tower, Downhead village and Merehead (Torr Works) quarry and stop at the view point to wonder at this very large hole in the ground, covering 205 hectares!  We will walk around 2 sides of the quarry, stopping for lunch in the picnic site along the way.  We will return to Cranmore via East Cranmore & Withy Wood Lane.  This walk can be shortened by a mile if the weather turns inclement or we are running short on time.  We should be back by 3.00pm, in time for tea & cake at the café before it closes at 3.30pm.  Fields and woodland with a small amount of lane walking; could be wet/muddy in places. Bring supplies for two stops.
