A guided town walk of a city packed with history. Oxford would justify ten walks; inevitably this one will just give a flavour of its riches. Early start to make the drive worthwhile. A rough outline of the day:
9.00 to 10.15 A walk into town along the Thames from the P&R to Folly Bridge via a superb Norman church at Iffley.
10.15 to 11.15 From Christ Church to High Street.
11.15 to 11.45 Coffee Break - either in a cafe or on a bench.
11.45 to 2.00 The heart of the city around the Radcliffe Camera and Sheldonian Theatre with some winding detours.
2.00 to 4.00 Free time to eat a late lunch, go Christmas shopping, visit a museum or a college etc.
4.00 Meet at Carfax to walk down to the Inspector Morse police station for the P&R bus. Ten minutes ride from car park.
Sadly there will not be time on the main walk to go into any of the colleges - something to come back for. Expect history, an astonishing variety of architecture, Lewis Carroll, Morse, some terrible souvenir shops…and much else (though NO Harry Potter!!!!). A coffee stop late morning; slightly later lunch at 2.00 during free time.
