This is a scenic walk with some far reaching views and open countryside. We start from Preston and head northwest to Great Offley which stands on a high ridge. The village has historical connection to King Offa of Mercia and is believed to have been the site of his palace. We can take a break here at the Red Lion or in the grounds of the much extended St Mary Magdalene church.
We then head north east down a steep incline to join Windmill Lane to Charlton, before turning south back to Preston via Wain Wood, the site of Bunyan's Dell where John Bunyan is recorded to have preached, often to large congregations.
The walk is mainly on made up paths but could be muddy in places.
Refreshments and toilets may be available at the Red Lion in Great Offley and/or The Windmill in Charlton but not guaranteed so I would recommend bringing your own drink and snack.
