Meet at the Yorkshire Dales national carpark. We then walk through Kettlewell to start our accent up Great Whernside. We ascend up Hooksbank towards Hag Dyke (Scout Hut), this is initially along good stoney tracks then the route becomes more of a grassy verge. The route is fairly gradual but becomes steeper nearer the summit. At the top we will stop for a break to take in the views (704 m).
We will then continue to walk along the top of Great Whernside which is fairly flat but may be boggy especially after rainfall. This is on the border of Wharfedale and Nidderdale, on a clear day Scar House and Angram reservoirs are visible.
We then decend (fairly steeply) crossing a minor road and then walking towards Cam Head which is a further accend of 100 m, there is then steep final decent to the village of Scarbottom. We then pass through the village and walk along the river back to Kettlewell.
