The walk covers Lee Valley Navigation Canal, rivers Ash and Rib, gently undulating farmland and woodland.
The walk is gently undulating with only one steep hill at Thundridge. There are no stiles. It may be damp and muddy so do wear boots and brings walking poles if required. One field is very muddy and a bit of a slog. One metal farm gate is difficult to open and I had to climb over. I have reported this to the local council. I will also look for a detour.
Buy a return rail ticket from Tottenham Hale to Hertford East.
Walk will start at 09:30 am from St. Margarets station. Initially meet at Tottenham Hale for the 08:51 train to St. Margarets, arriving at 09:27. There are toilets at Tottenham Hale and on the train but not at St. Margarets station.
There is a drop out point at Thundridge. There is an hourly bus from outside the Feathers Inn (at 22 minutes past the hour) to Ware railway station taking 9 minutes.
The walk will end at Hertford and we will return from Hertford East station, train times are 07 and 37 minutes past the hour.
Lunch will be at the village of Thundridge. Picnics can be eaten at Thundridge Church where there are benches available and a spacious porch in case of rain. For those requiring a pub lunch there is the Feathers Inn, link with menu provided. Please let me known by Wednesday 28th is you would like a booking. There is also Ermine's Cafe and Stores which serve hot drinks and a variety of baguettes and wraps, link provided.
