This is the second stage of the Green Link Walk. We meet outside Lea Bridge Station at 10.35 am. Trains from Stratford should arrive at 10.19 and 10.32. Trains from Tottenham Hale should arrive at 10.14 and 10.29. However please check the train times before leaving home. The walk ends at the Angel Tube Station in Upper Street.
The walk links a number of green spaces the most notable of which are Hackney Downs and London Fields. The last section of the walk is by the Regent's Canal. About 70% of the walk is through north London Streets along pavements. That said the walkover was more interesting than I had anticipated.
There are toilet facilities at Hackney Downs and London Fields. On the walkover there was a coffee stall on Hackney Downs where we may stop for 10 minutes or so.
We will stop for lunch in London Fields adjacent to the entrance to Broadway Market where there are a number of cafes and restaurants including the Cat and Mutton and a rather exotic outdoor oyster bar.
There are clearly always risks when crossing roads and walking by water and care should be taken. However, on the walkover the more serious risks were icy footpaths at the start of the walk and speeding cyclists on the Regent Canal towpath seemingly intent on forcing me into the canal. If the night before the walk is frosty please wear suitable footwear and walk with care.
