A varied walk, starting in the pretty village of Caldbeck, climbing via the hamlet of Nether Row and continuing upwards to moorland dotted with old mine workings to reach High Pike. We then begin the descent to pastures and farmland and reach the village of Hesket Newmarket, and down to a bridge which crosses the Cald Beck itself. Next we have a short, steep climb to join part of the Cumbria Way and return to Caldbeck
The walk is mainly on clear tracks and paths with wonderful views in all directions. It is a fairly long, steady climb up to High Pike and will be taken at a moderate pace. Some of the path will be muddy after rain, particularly the climb up to the Cumbria Way after the bridge over the Cald Beck, and a walking pole is advised.
