This walk starts by tracing the great geological fault that cleaves the central Lake District from North to South. From the lonely waters of Snipes How Tarn, we forge our quest, linking a chain of innumerable and immediately forgettable Borrowdale Volcanic crags that form a discontinuous escarpment above Thirlmere. From there, the route continues over further outcrops before descending into Grasmere, where we will return by bus for the first linear walk of the year. The route will be largely pathless but with recognition of the fact we are still in winter conditions remains at around 1500feet in altitude
Along the way we will encounter an overabundance of crags including:
- Dodd Crag
- Goat Crag
- Iron Crag
- Castle Crag
- Lassie Crag
- Cockrigg Crag
- Fisher Crag
- Thackmell Crag
