Overview

Smardale and Ash Fell are two areas of relatively low lying moorland with panoramic views of the Pennines. There is some ascent but nothing steep. There are a couple of stiles and some muddy patches but not as extreme as on some walks recently.

There are also two places where the walk is alongside a major road, so care is needed.
