Overview

A varied 9 mile route which includes woodland and riverside and affords splendid views of the South Tyne Valley.

We follow the South Tyne Trail across Lambley viaduct where, after a short distance, we leave it and ascend  to cross fields to rejoin the trail near Whitwham. After dropping down through Glendue Wood, we cross the river and enter Oakeyside Wood. We once more rejoin the Trail for a short stretch near Coanwood and follow the river to Featherstone Bridge passing near Featherstone Castle. The last stretch is across meadow and through woodland.

Please meet at Featherstone Park car park on the South Tyne Trail near Rowfoot/Featherstone. From the A69 on the Haltwhistle bypass, take the road signposted to Alston (A689), Halton Lea Gate and Coanwood. Continue through Park Village and after 0.8 miles, turn right before Featherstone village hall (on a sharp lefthand bend). Pass the Wallace Arms and the car park is signposted on the left. Car sharing is advised due to limited parking. We try to offer informal car sharing from the Wentworth car park in Hexham - please contact the walk leader if you are interested (driver or passenger).
