Starting with fantastic views from Leavening Brow we follow a good track downhill to Burythorpe, we go through the village and then following a pleasant, undulating footpath across fields to Birdsall. Having followed the road through Birdsall we steel ourselves for a steep climb up Birdsall Brow (we will take this at gentle pace with as many stops as needed). After admiring the views from the top of the Brow, we cut across to the Wolds Way and down Beamer Hill to the edge of Thixendale Village, before taking a sharp westerly turn along a short stretch of road to join the Chalkland Way through western spur of Thixen Dale and into Milham Dale. We continue to follow the Chalkland Way to Hanging Grimston, taking the more gentle route down to the dramatic Deep Dale followed a steady uphill to meet the road that takes us downhill back to the car park.
The walk involves several steep downhill sections as well as the climb up Birdsall Brow, so walking poles may be helpful. All steep sections will be done at a pace that is safe and comfortable for all.
Regret that no dogs allowed, other than assistance dogs with prior agreement from the walk leader.
