The circular route takes the community path via the St Benion’s Well area across fields to the aqueduct by Carreghofa Locks and then back along the tow path in the direction towards Llanymynech. (See below * regarding a shorter walk option.)The route then heads over towards the weir at Carreghofa and Carreghofa Hall, then heads back towards Llanymynech via Llanymynech Rocks Nature Reserve , Offa's Dyke and the community path.
A significant part of the overall route is flat . The section of the walk from Carreghofa Hall includes a gradual incline as the route follows the lane heading towards Llanymynech Rocks Nature Reserve. The route down from the Rocks joins Offa's Dyke and then the community path heading back down towards the car park at Llanymynech.
There will be a small number of stiles to cross along the route. Walking routes were largely dry on the recce undertaken 3 May. Walking poles may help to climb the small number of steps leading up to the tow path (walk leader to provide assistance too) and also to navigate brambles etc along some of the footpaths.
*If any walker would like to do just the initial part of the walk this could be possible therefore offering a shorter walk. They should contact the walk leader by Wednesday 7 May to check this is still available. The major part of the first section of the walk is flat so could provide a short walk of just under 3 miles in length.
Refreshments and toilets are available at the end of the walk at The Dolphin pub. No public toilets along the route but short stops will be provided as required.
