Overview

We meet at Winchester Railway station to catch the 8.56 am train to Waterloo , arriving at about 10.10am . This is the earliest train we can catch using a senior railcard . You will need to sort your ticket out yourself and be on the platform by 8.45am .

This nine mile walk then sets off from Waterloo Station from The Windrush Memorial at 10.15 where anyone not travelling from Winchester train station can meet up with us. We then head for the  Thames Embankment where we pass both the Covid Memorial wall and see views of Westminster and Big Ben. We cross the river over Lambeth Bridge by Lambeth Palace , home to the Archbishop of Canterbury , and head towards Westminster Abbey cloisters after passing some lovely Georgian homes with great political relevance . After leaving the grounds of Westminster Abbey we head down Whitehall and past Downing Street  towards Buckingham Place via Horseguard's Parade and St James' park where we have a coffee stop. There is a cafe and facilities in the park should you wish to buy a drink or have a comfort break . I have factored in as many comforts stops as possible . They are not all free so please bring a contactless card with you just in case. Please feel free to bring your own refreshments and lunch or you could buy something from various outlets that we pass . It is a picnic walk.

After Buckingham Place we make our way to the River Thames via Trafalgar Square and head towards St Pauls for lunch . On route we pass historical buildings and sites of interest. After lunch we cross the river and aim for London Bridge which we hope to reach, but this part is flexible depending on time. We return via the embankment back to Waterloo and a funfair ride if anyone fancies a ride on a carousel. I plan to catch the nearest train possible to 4.00pm for our return to Winchester.

It will be me that leads the walk even though it appears in the name of Michael Moore as I am having difficulty registering on the site , he will be on the walk with us though.

Please note that the start time is 10.15am from the Windrush Memorial not 11.00am as it may appear on this site.
