We are the Tavistock Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
From the car park, we descend to the River Tamar on tracks through Maddacleave Wood before heading to Morwellham along the mine railway line beside the River Tamar and Sheepridge Wood. From Morwellham we’ll return via Morwell Wood and Morwell Barton. Lovely riverside walking and some historic interest as we walk near Newquay, an abandoned quay, and pass the George and Charlotte copper mine.
Paths and tracks and a section on a quiet road. After recent rain, some of the stony forest tracks are slippy, particularly on the descent to the river. Walking poles will be helpful. There is some wetness underfoot in places. Ups and downs and we finish with an ascent back up to the car park.
Dogs on leads. Bring a drink for our coffee break.

Maddacleave free car park which is at the end of a short unmade rough track just off the B3257 towards Bere Alston. Coming from Gulworthy, after driving along a long straight stretch of road as the road bends, you take a right turn (NOT signposted))along a short unmade track. What3words for the right turn is crumple.fittingly.minority You quickly come to the car park on the left.
