A walk that begins gently along quiet lanes and through woodland before opening out onto wide, wild moorland dotted with a few striking peaks.
This route is inspired by one from Dartmoor Again by F.H. Starkey, taking us from Zoar Common to Hill Bridge, through Cuddlipptown, White Tor, Langstone Moor, Lynch Tor, and on to Baggator Gate. Starkey, well-known for his books on Dartmoor’s history and landscapes, shares some interesting details along the way for those who’d like to learn more.
We’ll pause for a tea break by the River Tavy, then have lunch on the open moor with sweeping views all around of Dartmoor’s wild beauty.
Graded as strenuous as the tracks are quite muddy and the open moorland can be bracing. Quite a lot of continuous uphill on the lanes and across uneven ground up to the tor summits where paths are rough or not evident. A couple of slightly awkward stiles.
We'll maintain a steady pace as daylight hours are getting shorter. Very exposed in places so bring usual Moorland weather gear.
