Medium Walk – Moderate/Easy – 9 Miles – Bring a Packed Lunch.
Join us for a circular walk starting from Timbersbrook car park at 10:00am. We will begin by climbing Bosley Cloud, taking in stunning views before descending to the other side — and yes, we may well spot wallabies roaming free (this is England, honestly!).
From there, we follow parts of the Gritstone Trail and Staffordshire Way towards Rushton Spencer, stopping for lunch at the peaceful grounds of St Lawrence Church. After lunch, the route takes us via Oulton and Woodhouse Green, returning to Timbersbrook — approximately 9 miles total (measured via the trusted “string on a map” method… it works for me!).
Along the way, we’ll pass a Cold War nuclear bunker once used by the Observer Corps, part of the network monitoring fallout in the event of nuclear war — connected to the better-known Hack Green site near Nantwich.
And there is a story to be told about a teenage boy offered a job in Stone… who never made it. Instead, he ended up back here in a grave dug the wrong way round. Intrigued? Come and hear the tale.
Before we finish, we will visit the Bridestones, Congletons very own Neolithic monument, once more expansive than Stonehenge and now a haunting reminder of its ancient grandeur.
If your group's walk is full, feel free to join us!
We stop once for a drink and again for lunch — so bring a flask and packed lunch.
We set off promptly at 10:00am with whoever is there — so please do not be late.
