N.B. 3-mile option available
A walk that makes use of the long-awaited Active Travel Path connection at Gowerton Railway Station and an even longer-awaited replacement bridge over the River Llan.
The first section is about 2.5 miles to Gowerton Railway Station and the housing estates.
We’ll set off from Waunarlwydd, walking on the edge of Mynydd-bach-y-Glo to Titanium Road. Here we join a new connecting path and bridge over the River Llan.
Heading west, we walk through countryside towards the new Active Travel Path into Gowerton Railway Station.
Passing between the new housing estates, we emerge onto and cross, the B4295 to the old railway track.
If you wish to leave the walk after 2.5 miles, you could:
- Catch a train to Swansea (Check times)
- Take a bus back to Waunarlwydd (Check times)
- Walk half a mile along the pavement of B4295 to the Farmers Arms.
The old railway track takes us to Garrod Avenue which we cross and follow the Gower Way along Donkey Lane to Dunvant.
We then make our way through more countryside towards Craig y Bwldan and descend into Waunarlwydd through the estate.
Stiles: 1 Stile (Awkward, not a standard design)
Toilets: At the end of the walk in the pub.
Terrain: Urban surfaces and rural, grassy paths through farmland with livestock. There may be mud in Donkey Lane and other sections of the route. Sections may be waterlogged so wear waterproof boots. Some narrow paths. Uneven surfaces. Easy ascents/descents. Walking Poles recommended.
Social after walk:
Afterwards, we will go for refreshments to The Farmers.
