We will begin the walk around 09.50, and it should take approximately 4 hours. We start the walk by following the A76 in an easterly direction until we turn right onto Lime road. We follow this road uphill for about a mile heading for Dalhanna hill. We will have a tea break once we reach the top, which is the highest point of the walk. From here we are on open grassland for a short distance before picking up a farm track leading down to the riverside part of the walk. The riverside path will be muddy, with small boulders, tree roots and erosion to be wary of. We then cross a bridge over the river and make our way along to the memorial site of the 1950 Knockshinnoch mining disaster. We will stop for lunch here. After lunch we head for the Knockshinnoch nature reserve, walking through the reserve before arriving back in to New Cumnock. Please contact the walk leader if you intend to travel directly to the start point. There are some fairly busy road to cross along the way, so care must be taken at these times. For this walk I would advise the use of good boots, gaiters and walking poles.
