Please take the 9.50 train from Victoria which arrives at Riddlesdown at 10.18. The walk is within the boundaries of London Transport zone 6. There are 2 unisex toilets at Riddlesdown but please use the train so as not to delay the start.
This is a day out in London's Greenbelt which passes through the ancient grazing lands of Farthing Downs, Happy Valley and Cousldon Common. The countryside is stunning given we are still in London.
The lunch stop is the Fox Inn. From here it is possible to drop out (bus 466 to East Croydon or bus 404 to Cousldon South). The pub lunch places have been taken. There are benches out side the pub for those who have a picnic.
After lunch we will have the chance to visit Chaldon Church which has a mediaeval wall painting dating back to 1200.
The walk ends at Coulsdon South station. There is a regular train service to either Victoria or London Bridge stations.
Points to note about the terrain
Morning: There is a not too long but very steep ascent to Kenley common involving steps. Bring poles if you use them. Later there are short stretches of squelchy mud and two stiles.
Afternoon: Short stretch of squelchy mud along a bridleway.
